Phases of the moon!
Today in Science we learnt all about the different phases of the moon! Did you know waxing means getting smaller and waning means getting bigger? We used oreo biscuits to re create the phases. It was so tempting to eat them!
We also began learning a song. Click here to listen!

Livin' on a Prayer
In our class we have been learning about Bon Jovi. We have listened and appraised some of their music. We learnt to sing "Livin' on a Prayer" and then we learnt to play the glockenspiel in some parts. This required us to carefully listen to the rhythm and pace.
Mathematics problem solving!
In Maths last week we were given a challenge! We heard the terrible news that somebody had stolen Neil Armstrong's space suit. We had to use our mastery numeracy skills to solve who it was out of all the suspects.
We discovered that the suspect guilty was... TIM PEAKE! Luckily, this was only to test our numeracy skills and he hadn't really stolen it. We are now going to be writing a newspaper article about this in Literacy.

Solar system
Today Year 5 had the exciting task of using toilet roll to create a solar system. We had to work in teams to work out the distance between each of the planets. We learnt a song to help us remember the order of the planets. Click here to hear it!
We then worked round to hear facts about the different planets before creating our own posters where we had to order the planets and write facts about each one!

Separating mixtures
Today in science we have learnt about seperating materials such as: salt, water, sand, flour and scrumptious raw rice! Our secret agent teachers gave use the impposible task of separating the supermarkets mixed goods .To get the staples out of the rice we used a magnet to separate the two materials. Next we separated the sand from the water by poring the water into a funnel with funnel paper leaving the sand on top of the paper. Thirdly we sieved the flour and the raisins to get the flour away from the raisins. Lastly, we had salt and water mixed together. We have placed these somewhere hot and will wait for the water to evaporate.

Dissolving Sugar
Today in our science lesson we experimented Solids, Liquids and Gases. As a class we used cold, warm and hot water with a little help from Miss Palfreeman to mix it with sugar and see wether it dissolved. Soon after we tested it, we found out that the hot water was the one that made the substance dissolve.(Sugar.) This happened because the temperature of the hot water was the highest!

Humanism!
In R.E. we have been looking at comparing and contrasting Christians and Humanists. We looked at how they are similar and what differences they have. We were also lucky enough to have a special visitor. Ian, from the Humanist Society, came to talk to Year 5 and 6 about what Humanists believe. We really enjoyed hearing about how non-religious people live.
